Kwando and Linyati Area
Some 10,000 years ago, the Cuando continued south to Lake Makgadikgadi, but now the river makes a sharp left turn east along the border with Botswana. Beginning at this point the river is known as the Linyanti River. The river flows through a seasonal lake, Lake Liambesi.

Makgadikgadi Pans
Lake Makgadikgadi is an ancient lake that existed in what is now the Kalahari Desert in Botswana. It may have once covered as much as 80,000 km˛ and been 30 m deep. It began to dry up approximately 10,000 years ago.Modern-day remnants of the lake include the Makgadikgadi Pan.

Cental Kalahari Game Reserve
Central Kalahari Game Reserve, which was set up in 1961, is the second largest game reserve in the world. Situated right in the centre of Botswana, this reserve is characterised by vast open plains, saltpans and ancient riverbeds.

About Botswana Accommodation
The Kalahari Desert covers four-fifths of Botswana and 17% of the country is covered by National Parks and a further 22% has been set aside as wildlife management areas. The region in the north and northeast is where the main tourist areas are found. This region plays host to the famous Okavango Delta, The Moremi Wildlife Reserve, Chobe National Park and the Savute Marsh (south-western Chobe).
The Delta, Moremi and Savute are accessed by light aircraft from Maun or Kasane. There are daily flights from Johannesburg to Maun. Chobe can either be accessed via Vic Falls (80 kms away) or Kasane. There are flights from Johannesburg to Kasane three times a week.
