Nestled amongst the vineyards, the restaurant features an inviting a la carte menu as well as picnic baskets brimming with all kinds of goodies that can be enjoyed at the pretty picnicking spots along the peaceful Franschhoek River that borders the estate. The main house has been divided into six luxuriously decorated suites, each one boasting a private balcony within easy reach of the orchard. Cradled by the Franschhoek and Stoney Brook rivers and situated under the watchful gaze of the majestic Franschhoek mountains, time stands still at Klein Genot in Franschoek, South Africa.

Angie and Joey Diamond's luxury Franschhoek hotel only accommodates fourteen visitors at a time, assuring that each and every person gets the special care and attention that they deserve. Home-made food, thoughtful service and pampering beauty treatments are part and parcel of this sensory experience and guests can expect to leave this luxurious choice of Franschhoek accommodation with a regenerated sense of spirit.

Originally designed to be the Diamonds' family home, the premises retains the comfort and warmth associated with a homestead, rather than the impersonal clinical nature of most commercial hotels and catering accommodations. Lush, expansive lawns encircle the entire house and a walk through the gardens will lead you to the vegetable patch where Klein Genot's fresh produce is grown in tidy rows. Afternoons may be spent strolling along the river or simply lounging by the crystalline pool, sipping on a refreshing drink or getting lost in a captivating novel.

Breakfast is served in the sunny dining area which is warmed by a well-stoked fireplace in winter time. Although dinner is not served, Angie and her team are more than happy to make reservations for their guests at one of the myriad of fanciful Franschhoek restaurants. Fairly soon (around the 1st of December, 2008) visitors will be able to dine at 'Genot' (which translates to 'indulgence'), the 120 seater restaurant currently being constructed on the property. Situated on the dam, the restaurant will be flanked on all sides by the Klein Genot vineyards. Aside from an à la carte menu, the restaurant will also prepare picnic baskets that can be enjoyed on the estate or at the myriad picnic spots and hammocks along the Franschhoek River. Wedding receptions and functions will also be catered for.

Indulge and pamper yourself at the one of the best Franschhoek hotel & spa experiences in the Western Cape. Klein Genot is a top spa, with world-class features such as a full Swedish massage experience, lymphatic draining specialists and body bronzing treatments to get that summer glow. Try out a signature Klein Genot body treatment which includes a full body exfoliation, a body wrap and a 40 minute massage. Established in Franschhoek, South Africa in 2000, Klein Genot proudly rolled out its maiden harvest of red varietals in 2007 with just over 20 hectares of vineyards and the intention of creating young, modern wines. The new, purpose built Klein Genot cellar is scheduled to open its doors to an eager public in December 2008, also offering a restaurant and function facilities.

Klein Genot's soil consists mainly of beautifully fertile rocky and dark loam that has excellent water retention capability and consistent drainage. The rocky soil is especially good for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, as it keeps quite cool – something this grape varietal needs in order to flourish.

Klein Genot's very first vintage had the distinction of gaining special recommendation from the Wine of the Month Club and receiving a whopping four stars from John Platter the first time around - no mean feat to say the least. The estate is planted with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot vines.

If elegant dining with the glamorous ambience of yesteryear is what you seek, you have come to the right Franschhoek restaurant. Although relatively new on the gastronomic scene in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley, here at Genot we realise that it is important to move with the times, which is why we have shifted our culinary focus slightly to bring you an even more exciting dining experience.

Angie and Joey Diamond have always thought it a pity that the stylish Grill Room concept that held sway in the 1970’s had died out and, when they sat down to decide in which direction to steer Genot next, decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to breathe new life into the notion and use it as inspiration for their Franschhoek restaurant’s reinvention. Going forward, diners can expect retro dishes, such as prawn cocktails, seafood bisque, escargot and Chateaubriand, to grace the pages of the Genot menu. Please take your time and view our current restaurant menu.

However, drawing up a lovely menu is all good and well, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating after all - which is why Angie and Joey have sourced only the very best chefs and waiters from nearby Cape Town, and further afield as far as Malawi and Mozambique. The kitchen will be headed up by Chef Patrick, while front of house affairs rest in the competent hands of Host Jean Roux (better known as JR). Two wine stewards have also been invited on board and will take care of wine service. The wine list has been expanded and now includes a selection of some of South Africa’s best-loved estates, including Bouchard Finlayson, Meerlust, Vergelegen and many more.

Furthermore, in accordance with the Grill Room theme, Genot now also offers an extensive range of cocktails, aged cognacs and fine single malt whiskeys to be enjoyed at the end of your meal. Venture to the cigar bar after dinner and partake in this elegant ritual that will always conjure up images of Old Hollywood. Alternatively, skip dinner and simply join us for a nightcap to round off the perfect evening out in the Franschhoek Wine Valley. Live entertainment will be available in the form of soft jazz and swing-inspired performances on Friday and Saturday evenings, and who doesn’t love dinner and a show?

Anyone who has ever stepped foot onto the Klein Genot grounds will have to agree that such a lovely area is the perfect location for one of the renowned Cape picnic spots. Yielding to literally hundreds of requests from visitors to make informal al fresco dining an option, the team at Klein Genot has now prepared twenty dedicated picnic spots along the estate’s riverbank for this express purpose. Priced at R128 per adult and R64 per child under the age of twelve, Klein Genot picnic baskets include a cooler bag, picnic crockery and a blanket. As for the food, you will be treated to a range of farm-fresh dishes, including snoek- and chicken liver pâtés, freshly baked ciabatta bread and melba toast, roasted chicken, lamb and beef, three cheeses, a French salad and a delicious homemade brownie to end your feast. Waiters will be on hand to make sure that you are well-supplied of cool beverages and to clear once you are done.

Why not make a day of it and come join us on the Estate for a spot of wine tasting, a meal and a stroll along the river? Our Franschhoek restaurant is dedicated to introducing visitors to the many splendors of the lost art of elegant dining and we would love it if you would join us on this culinary journey.
