Emily Moon River Lodge - 4 Star

Where luxury and peace are to be found in a sweeping river valley. Where the views encompass a wetland, winding river and distant mountains and where the call of the Fish Eagle will forever remind you of the vast skies of Africa .

Embracing the southern bank of the Bitou River in Plettenberg Bay , Emily Moon River Lodge is a small, exclusive Lodge with accommodation for just 16 adult guests and two children over the age of eight years.

Each luxurious suite is a separate lodge for two people, with their own sitting areas, private viewing decks and spacious, fully appointed bathrooms.

Emily Moon River Lodge is owned by Mark and Christine Valentine. Mark, a leading dealer in African artifacts, has filled the the restaurant, sun deck and eight luxurious lodges with treasures he has collected from across the continent of Africa, as well as beautiful objects from India.

The lodge is run by a team headed up by Simon & Di Valentine, whose sole purpose is ensuring that guests are well cared for and leave determined to return.

Larry Steenkamp, resident chef and restaurant partner,has travelled the world picking up skills and this, together with his passion for fresh flavours, is reflected in the eclectic menu. Larry makes simple food look and taste great. The restaurant is a fun vibey venue for lunch and warm and romantic by night. The exotic ambience, the food and incredible view make this one of the great meeting places of Africa.

The eight separate luxurious lodges are private, large and sumptuous with a décor one might term as chic African contemporary. All have breathtaking views!

Accommodation in seven lodges for two adults per unit, plus one family lodge sleeping two adults and two children.

Each secluded lodge is individually and stylishly furnished. Spacious living area. Fully appointed bathroom with underfloor heating. Each room is fitted with mini bars and satalite tv. Wooden viewing deck. Open air shower. Ceiling fan. Plantation blinds. Fireplace. Artworks collected from afar. Flying fish. Nguni hides.

Indigenous vegetation and garden settings. Woodland boardwalks.

LODGE SUITE
Each spacious, completely private lodge, is furnished in African contemporary style and is designed for two adults, except for one which has a downstairs and sleeps two children over the age of 8.

All have wooden decks with breath taking views and all the mod cons such as under floor heating, mini bars and satellite TV.

There are ceiling fans, plantation blinds, big fireplaces and the three newest units have hot and cold water outdoor showers.

HONEYMOON SUITE
This suite has all the luxury and sumptuousness that this special occasion deserves. In amongst beautiful African and Indian artifacts a large black, soft leather sofa dominates from where one looks out onto a big expanse of the winding Bitou River and many water birds.

The sunrise from this lodge can be spectacular.

EMILY’S RESTAURANT
We have a stunning new restaurant in the name of EMILY'S which exudes the essence, spirit and feel of Africa with beautiful collectors pieces in every nook and cranny.

Larry our chef extraordinaire produces an eclectic menu for candlelit dinners and fun lunches around the pool area relaxing, having a cocktail and enjoy the peacefull surroundings.

There is a vibey little bar and sundowner deck where a great buzz happens prior to dinner and a large log fireplace for after dinner Irishes or just a cosy little chat.

ON SITE ACTIVITIES
We are close to the superb beaches, shops, golf courses and other restaurants and conveniently positioned for covering a large area of the Garden Route .

Our position has a unique outlook over the Bitou Valley and Wetland with the winding Bitou River running through it. There is abundant wild bird life with flocks of geese and ducks, water birds of all sizes and descriptions, riverine bush that attracts many species of birds, and the brightly coloured sun birds that come in large numbers to feast on the nectar from flowers in the garden.

The Emily Moon staff will gladly assist in organising any of the activities in and around Plettenberg Bay.
Plettenberg Bay, nicknamed Plett, is a town in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. It was originally named Bahia Formosa (Beautiful Bay) by early Portuguese explorers and lies on South Africa's Garden Route 210 km from Port Elizabeth and about 600 km from Cape Town.

The area is of course a sports paradise and boasts fabulous trails for hikers, mountain bikers, horse riders and canoeists. The highlight of the area is undoubtedly the rivers, beaches and the bay with its ideal conditions for all facets of watersports, including sailing in the safe waters of the Bay, superb rock and surf fishing and scuba diving spots.

Alternately one can simply stroll along its clean, sandy beaches stretching for miles along the Indian Ocean or enjoy its safe swimming areas. No less than ten important nature reserves embrace the varied ecosystems of the area as well as unique marine reserves, home to soft coral reefs, dolphins, seals and a host of other marine life. The bay itself is Nursery to the endangered Southern Right Whale which come here to calve in the winter and spring (July to December).
