Mosaic is located outside the quaint village of Stanford, in the beautiful Overberg Wine Region, two hours southeast of Cape Town.
Journey back to 1857, when the land baron Duncan McFarlane registered as the first plot owner in the village of Stanford. Within several years he purchased all the land around the Hermanus Lagoon and along the Klein River. In 1892, Duncan's granddaughter, Henrietta and her husband Jack Poole, built an enormous stacked-stone manor house on part of that land which is now Mosaic Farm. It came to be known as the 1892 Stanford Spookhuis after reamining unoccupied for over a half century.
Built in the English Georgian style, the Spookhuis was in a complete state of ruin when Breese and Kathryn Johnson purchased the farm in 2002. An historic restoration has returned this enchanting manor house back to its original grandeur. It is now home to our fine dining restaurant, library, drawing room and loft-styled conference and wedding facility.
LAGOON LODGE
Luxury, with African simplicity
Our 5 Star Lagoon Lodge captures the essence of tranquility in private safari-style suites for twelve to sixteen guests. Woven into an ancient Milkwood grove, glass and stone walls open up onto exqusite views of the mountains and lagoon. Each suite has luxurious beds under netting, a large romantic tub, outdoor shower and wooden viewing deck.
Boardwalks under a canopy of trees lead to our lapa where drinks and conversation are enjoyed by a fireplace that will warm your soul. A heated pool overlooks a bird sanctuary with the lagoon and mountains as a spectacular backdrop. As evening falls, you will witness the exquisite colors of the sun setting and the glorious expanse of the star-filled South African sky.
Your stay is inclusive of gourmet dinners by our chef, delicious breakfasts, welcome drink, sundowners, guided bird watching, kayaking and 4x4 beach trip (weather permitting; whale watching in season).

Cuisine
Our fine dining restaurant in the 1892 Spookhuis is one of our great attractions. We offer a fusion of classic and contemporary South African cuisine, featuring the freshest ingredients of the season. Organic herbs and vegetables are gathered daily from our garden, fresh fish is ordered in from the area harbors, select meats are custom cut at a local butchery and blended into great food sensations.
Memorable candle lit dinners at night are provided for our overnight guests and we welcome people living or staying nearby. Picnic lunches are served on the terrace of the Spookhius or on wooden decks beneath the milkwood thickets overlooking the lagoon.
Wines
What previously was the underground cheese cellar of the 1892 Spookhuis is now home to our cellar stocking prestige South African wine, with special attention to the Overberg Wine Region. Well known for the great wineries of Hamilton Russell and Bouchard Finlayson, the Overgerg is home to an increasing number of award-winning wineries. Springfontein, our neighbor next door, has received world recognition as a pioneer in a unique limestone soil and cool climate terroir.
