Lose Your Heart in the Garden Route: African Welcome Promises an Unforgettable Trip

The Garden Route is one of the many reasons why South Africa is truly one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The gorgeous coastline and beautiful forest accompanied by beautiful mountains, rivers, beaches and lagoons; a surprise awaits the traveller around each corner. The Garden Route is lined with beautiful, historic towns which offer the traveller a generous scoop of South African culture and history. Many attractions and activities will keep you busy for days, but don’t stress, the Garden Route will still leave you properly rested no matter how busy you are.

Depending on how much time you have there are a couple of towns to be visited on a Garden Route tour. Wilderness, a seaside holiday resort tucked away at the foothills of the Outeniqua Mountain range, is a town of unbelievable beauty. The further you drive through this town the more it feels like a fairy tale; the forest is thick and never ending. The amazing beaches offer whale and dolphin watching while the Wilderness National Park is wonderfully beautiful with its surrounding lakes, lagoons and rivers – with the gorgeous mountain as the perfect backdrop. Wilderness is also home to many artists and creative.

Mossel Bay is a small seaside town rich in South African history. In 1488 Bartholomew Dias threw anchor to this town’s shore – back then Mossel Bay was called "Aguada de Sào Bras". It was only in 1601 when a Dutch navigator noticed that the mussels his crew ate were a good addition to their diet that Mossel Bay got its name. For the adventurous here are many attractions, activities, restaurants and beaches in this wonderful town to keep the traveller busy for a couple of days.

It is believed that only one lonely elephant still roams the Knysna Forest.  However, regardless of whether the elephant is around of not, Knysna remains to be an incredibly popular holiday destination. This beautiful little village is picture perfect and relaxes the soul like no other. Situated in the heart of the Garden Route this is a town where you have plenty to do – water activities on the Knysna lagoon, lazing around at cosy cafes or check out all the shops in this creative town – Knysna will leave you wishing you don’t have to leave.

There are many more towns to explore on a Garden Route tour, which all offer different activities and attractions for the excited traveller. Top attractions and activities include the Cango Wildlife Ranch and Valley of Ancients in Oudtshoorn.
