This nine day package uses the scheduled services of South African Airways to Nairobi and features the highlights of Kenya - a safari to one of the famous 'tree hotels' of the Aberdares, the spectacular birdlife of the Rift Valley lakes and onto the rolling grasslands and 'Big Five' of the Masai Mara Game Reserve.
The overland section of this safari (Day 2 to Day 6) is operated on a private basis for your party only i.e. your own private safari vehicle and guide.

Morning departure on South African Airways from Johannesburg to Nairobi. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Holiday Inn Nairobi. Accommodation is on a bed & breakfast basis.
The Holiday Inn Nairobi is a three/four star hotel, located in the suburbs of Nairobi, approximately 6 km from the city centre. Within easy walking distance of the hotel is the Westlands shopping centre with the largest and best variety of shops and restaurants in Nairobi. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms as well as television. There is a casino, 2 outdoor swimming pools, a health club, hairdressing salon and a few shops.

This morning you will be collected from your hotel by your driver/guide and travel by microbus to the Aberdares National Park. Lunch at your base hotel, before being transferred to your 'tree hotel' in a natural forest glade for dinner and overnight. The evening is spent game viewing from the lodge as the animals visit the waterhole to drink.
Your 'tree hotel' offers accommodation in comfortable rooms with private facilities. The public areas have large panoramic windows and there are elevated open air viewing platforms as well as bunkers for game spotting. The waterhole and saltlick are floodlit at night affording the opportunity to see some of the nocturnal species in the area.

Drive around the northern tip of the Aberdare Mountains and down the escarpment into the Great Rift Valley. Arrive at Lake Baringo, a fresh water lake, for lunch. The afternoon is at leisure. Two nights spent at Island Camp or similar including all meals.
Built on a hill, the tented accommodation and communal areas at Island Camp are reached by walking and climbing along winding stone paths and steps. At the highest point is the swimming pool with commanding views across the lake to the mountains beyond. As the camp is at the end of a big island, one can take lengthy birding walks or hike to the hot springsat the far end of the island.

A boat trip is included today (weather permitting). The rest of the day is at leisure to relax, swim or go on a bird walk.

Your safari continues across the floor of the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru, a soda lake famous for its large concentrations of flamingo. Enjoy a game drive and lunch at a lodge before continuing to Lake Naivasha. With shores lined with yellow-barked acacia trees, Lake Naivasha is dominated by the extinct volcano of Mount Longonot. It is a fresh water lake renowned for its spectacular birdlife, with over 300 species to be found. Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Club or similar.
This beautiful old hotel was Kenya's international air terminal just after World War II. The flying boats of British Overseas Airways landed here as they followed the Nile south on to South Africa. Several wings and clusters of rooms and cottages are set in 12 hectares of cool lawns, shaded by spreading fever trees and accented by colourful gardens. Rooms are attractively furnished with en suite facilities.

After breakfast drive back to Nairobi. Lunch is included at the famous Carnivore Restaurant. Transfer to the domestic airport for your afternoon light aircraft transfer to the Masai Mara. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp, located on the edge of the escarpment offering magnificent views across the Masai Plains.
Three nights spent here on a full board basis with daytime game drives included.
Kichwa Tembo is in the west of the Masai Mara, located high on a ridge on the edge of riverine forest. The luxury tents are stylish and spacious with twin beds and en suite bathroomwith hot shower, toilet and electrical hurricane lamp. Each tent has its own shaded verandah with canvas camp chairs and a stunning view. Game viewing from Kichwa is excellent - with large herds of buffalo and elephant often being seen. A swimming pool is available to cool off in, with some of the best views in Africa. The camp uses specially designed landcruisers with open roofs for optimum game viewing. Guides are knowledge on the flora, fauna, game, birdlife as well as the customs of the Masai people.

Morning transfer by light aircraft from Kichwa Tembo to Nairobi. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the international airport for your return flight on South African Airways to Johannesburg.
