Kenya Camel Trek 9 Days, 8 Nights
This 9 day tour is a combination of classic Kenyan game viewing in the world renowned Samburu National Park, camel trekking across the Laikipia Plateau, adrenaline filled whitewater rafting, wilderness camping and luxury lodge stays.We will travel in 4X4 vehicles, by raft, camel and foot and experience, ‘not just see’ some of East Africa’s most impressive wilderness, all in the shadow of the continents second highest peak, Mt Kenya. You will be treated to first class meals and lodging for the trips duration, comprising of top class restaurants, dinners cooked over an open fire under the stars and food prepared by our lodges 5 star chefs.
Your guide is a highly experienced and knowledgeable naturalist.

Morning departure on South African Airways from Johannesburg to Nairobi, arriving mid afternoon. On arrival you will be met by an adventuretrippintours.com representative and transferred to the Jacaranda Hotel. Welcome dinner at Peppers Restaurant.

Today we depart Nairobi after a late breakfast for Samburu National Park. This six hour drive will take us around the eastern flanks of Mt Kenya before arriving at the 4 star Samburu Lodge. After settling in to our accommodations we will go on an evening game drive. Enjoy sundowner drinks atop one of the nearby ridges with sweeping views of the National Park and surrounding areas.

An early start today with a sunrise game drive. Samburu is home to the ‘Big 5’ mammals and today we could see giraffe, zebra, lion, impala, buffalo, crocodile, cheetah, elephant, many varieties of bird life and more. The day can be spent lounging by the pool or we can arrange game walks or drives for those who are feeling energetic. Mid afternoon (subject to water levels/game movements) we will prepare for a float trip in rafts down the Ewaso Ngiro River where we will watch the sunset and see the animals coming to the river for their evening drink and wash. We will be treated to a 5 course meal at the lodge restaurant tonight.

After a cooked buffet breakfast we will head out of the park gates, meet with our Masai guides and embark on a 2 day Camel Safari. This is basically a camel-assisted walk, with the opportunity to ride the camels throughout the journey. Today we will head up the Ewaso Ngiro River into the Laikipia Plateau; tonight we will camp in style under the African sky in a remote campsite not far from the river.

You will be woken this morning with tea, coffee or hot chocolate in your tent. After a hearty breakfast we set out for a day of trekking with the camels, until we arrive at Tassia Lodge in the mid/late afternoon. Tassia Lodge is a community run project (which means all profit goes back into the local community), and is a sight to behold after two days of trekking in the desert. With open front rooms built completely of local materials this is truly a magnificent place. Tonight we dine in the restaurant where the Tassia chefs will provide us with a world class meal.

A rest day at Tassia today where you can simply relax in the sun by the pool, or we can arrange game walks, fishing and other local activities. Just before sunset we will go for a short hike. Enjoy sundowner drinks whilst watching the sunset before heading back to the restaurant for another fine meal.

After a leisurely start we make the 6 hour drive to our Sagana river base on the Tana River. Tonight you will camp out to the sounds of the Tana River flowing mere yards from your tent. Dinner will be a huge barbeque with salads, pastas, meat, beer, wine and sodas.

After a large cooked and continental breakfast we will make preparations for our whitewater rafting adventure on the Class IV+ Tana River. At the base you will be outfitted with all the necessary safety equipment and you will be given a detailed briefing and description of what is to come. After that we will drive to the put-in, review some key safety points and then embark on the 16 km's of exciting whitewater and beautiful scenery the Tana has to offer.
After a quick lunch at our river base we will (have the option to) head upstream again, and raft the 8 km stretch containing the most exciting whitewater. After this a quick pack up and we back to Nairobi. Check into the Jacaranda Hotel before heading out to the world famous Carnivore Restaurant for our farewell dinner.

Morning at leisure to do some last minute souvenir shopping, or simply relax by the hotel pool and reflect on your amazing journey. Lunchtime transfer to the airport for your South African Airways flight to Johannesburg.
