Grootbos Nature Reserve boasts a diversity of fynbos vegetation with over 500 plant species and over
100 bird species as well as a magnificent unspoilt coastline. Apart from activities available at Grootbos
which include nature drives, walks, horse rides and mountain biking, the area itself offers much to do.
The 30km long beaches with a variety of seabirds are perfect for walks.
Activities nearby include a trip to the southern most tip of Africa - Cape Agulhas (110km). A 30 minute
drive will take you to Elim, a Moravian Mission village with one of South Africa's oldest water mills.
13km's away in Stanford one can visit the Birkenhead Brewery or take a trip to Hermanus for the Saturday
Craft Market as well as the Fernkloof Nature Reserve. The Hamilton Russell and Bouchard & Finlayson wineries
also have tasting facilities in Hermanus.
For the more adventurous there are boat trips to nearby Dyer Island to view Cape Fur Seals, African
(Jackass) Penguins, thousands of Cormorants and other seabirds
