Phantom Forest Eco-Reserve

The Mountain track winds up through indigenous forests to Phantom Forest Lodge, discreetly designed with ragged thatch and wood shingle, to blend in under the canopy of mature forest trees. This private Nature Reserve on the Knysna River, offers a unique bio-diversity of habitats. The Afromontane forest, Cape coastal fynbos and estuarine wetland is home to over 150 bird species, bushpig, bushbuck, grysbok, the rare blue duiker and a variety of smaller game. Drawing inspiration from nature, and using only sustainable materials, the elevated "tree suites" were created with privacy and harmony in mind. Meandering boardwalks lead to magical places - the fresh-water natural pool or the Body Boma, offering a variety of relaxation treatments. Sundowners at The Eyrie are spectacular, with sunsets and views to match - right to the famous Knysna Heads - a view shared only with the resident Fish Eagles. Share a picnic, canoe on the river, or follow trails through forest and fynbos.
