Oulap Country House

Oulap is recognised as one of the best country houses in South Africa. Situated in the towering Swartberg Mountains east of Oudtshoorn, Oulap is surrounded by magnificent mountain and country vistas in the midst of the spectacular Little Karoo. Oulap has five olde-world en-suite guest bedrooms, a billiard room, large lounge, reading room, cellar bar and swimming pool. The atmospheric wood-panelled dining room seats sixteen people.

From Oulap guests can explore some of the most magnificent mountain passes in South Africa, including the daunting Swartberg Pass and Meiringspoort. These passes link the Little Karoo to the Garden Route and to the Great Karoo, and traverse the Outeniqua and Swartberg mountains. In Spring and Summer after the rains have fallen, the landscape is mantled in a carpet of wild flowers. The magnificent Cango Caves and Ostrich farms are located close by and guests can sample local wines and stroll and shop in period Victorian villages. The greatest feature of Oulap is the ability to relax and to sleep in peace and to recover fully from the stresses and strains of our modern lifestyle. The owners host guests personally.
