About Durban Scheduled Overland Tours
Blessed by a sunny year-round climate, Durban offers travellers a diversity of experiences. Zulu, Indian and European influences create a cultural mosaic whilst fine hotels, entertainment centres, amusement parks, trendy nightspots, colourful emporiums and markets vie for the visitor's attention.
The main city of Durban is a bustling seaport of fascinating contrasts. Attractions include: uShaka Marine World, the Indian market, the Snake Park, Natal Parks Board at Umhlanga, Umgeni River Bird Park, the water wonderland, the harbour waterfront and the African Art Centre. The Grey Street Mosque is the largest in the southern hemisphere.
A wide variety of Day Tours cover the city and greater Durban area, history, culture and wildlife.
On the north and south coast the warm Indian Ocean caresses the wide sandy beaches and a selection of seaside towns and fine golf courses enhance the coastline. Schools of playful Bottlenose Dolphins are regularly seen, particularly along the north coast.
Wildlife conservation in KwaZulu-Natal ensures protection for a variety of bird and animal life. The St Lucia Wetlands, a World Heritage Site, is one of KwaZulu-Natal's many wildlife sanctuaries. This region also boasts South Africa's oldest game reserve, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi.
Extending inland from the north coast of Durban is the region historically known as Zululand. From Eshowe to Ulundi, Zulu culture is visible everywhere and ancient battlesites are commemorated.
The capital, Pietermaritzburg, is a graceful and attractive town from which to explore farther west, where the majestic Drakensberg Mountain Range beckons with its scenic magnificence. With towering peaks, the Drakensberg is a haven for those who love climbing, hiking, horseback trails and marvelling at the grandeur of unspoilt nature.
