Half Day Township Tour & Cape Cultural Experience

Cape Town, being one of the oldest Cities in South Africa, is rich with culture and history.

Apart from the culture found in our Historical Buildings and Museums, we believe that culture is more about how the local people live and experience their day to day lives. Embark on this Half Day Tour combining the interesting historical aspect of Cape Town, with the diverse cultural aspects of our varied communities.

We start our day by heading out to the Townships of Khayalitsha - Khayelitsha means "new home" like many other black townships, it was created during the apartheid era as a dormitory area for the working class - and Langa - Many townships contain both "formal" and "informal" sections. The formal sections contain homes with electricity, water, bathrooms (sometimes shared between families), and telephones. There's a street address on each house, and residents can receive mail. The informal sections lack these basic services.

The time spent in the townships with involve interaction with the locals, obtaining an insight into the day in the life of these vibrant communities.

We visit the Khayalitsha Craft Market - The Craft Market is one of the hundreds of small industries being created to supply jobs and income to those unemployed people. The Craft Market trains women in the art of making curios for tourists, supplies them with the materials through a revolving fund, and then markets the products to tourists. All of the proceeds remain within the Craft Market cooperative in Khayelitsha.

The morning also includes a visit to St Michaels Day Care Centre , with a stop at a local Shebeen ( Pub ) .

We also visit the Philani Nutrition Centre - The Philani Nutrition and Development Project was established in the “illegal” squatter community of Crossroads in 1979 to provide basic child health and nutrition services to a community ignored and neglected by the health authorities of the apartheid era. It now operates in nine communities on the outskirts of Cape Town.
