Woodbury Lodge
Amakhala Game Reserve - Accommodation
Woodbury Lodge, situated on the beautiful Amakhala Game Reserve only some
75km from Port Elizabeth, is spectacularly set against a cliff above the Bushman’s River valley.
It offers an intimate and tranquil experience of the Eastern Cape riverine bushveld at its best.
The lodge has recently received a four star grading in recognition of its standards.
Your hosts, the Gush family, will endeavour to make your stay truly memorable.
Bush Living
Guests are accommodated in five comfortably appointed stone-and-thatch sleeping lodges,
each with air-conditioning and en-suite bathroom.
The seclusion of the lodges and the design of the bathrooms and individual
outdoor relaxation areas enable our visitors to enjoy the unique and breathtaking
views at their leisure. Guests are often thrilled by
the late afternoon sighting of the elephant herd passing by.
Relaxation
Meals with a South African flavour are served in a relaxed and stylish atmosphere in
the central dining room, and guests can gather around the outdoor fire or in the attractive
bar lounge for a drink and snacks before dinner.
Breakfasts on occasion are served outdoors on the deck of the dining room.
A range of game viewing and other activities such as the river
cruise and canoeing are on offer, or you could just recline around the pool and enjoy some sun
while the birds keep you company.

Overview of Amakhala Game Reserve:
Among the Frontier Settlers some five generations ago, our families settled in the Eastern Cape to farm sheep
and cattle on the wild and often hostile Zuurveld.
We are still here in the now historic and hospitable
Frontier Country, only today our Private Game Reserve offers a wildlife experience that will capture your
imagination, refresh your soul and help to conserve our natural heritage.
The haunting cry of the fish eagle echoes through the rugged krantzes, and the veld grass whispers with
the roaming of Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Cheetah, Giraffe, Zebra and numerous other antelope.
At Amakhala you can experience the delights of the African bushveld while on safari, bushwalk, river cruise,
mountain bike, horseback, or simply with a glass of wine from the veranda of your lodge.
