Luxury Safari Accommodation at Ulusaba - Rock Lodge

We have two lodges here at Ulusaba. One is perched high on the summit of a koppie (rocky hill) and we call it Rock Lodge. It is here where you will find spectacular panoramic views over miles of bush, the wildlife roaming within, and the beauty of the lowveld (bushy grassland plain) below, all set against a backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountain range far in the distance.

Rock Lodge is the epitome of luxury safari accommodation in South Africa. As Ulusaba is a Private Game Reserve the service, facilities and suites are all excellent.

Game Drive

A safari in South Africa is a wonderful way to spend a holiday, at Ulusaba we offer game drives in open 4x4 game viewing safari vehicles twice a day as well as nature walks. These activities are included in your luxury safari accommodation rates.

There are very few things as soul affecting than seeing the magnificent creatures of Africa in their natural habitats. A safari in South Africa is a once in a lifetime experience; at Ulusaba we understand this and aim to make your African adventure as special, fulfilling and memorable as possible. The excellent game viewing experience is complimented by other activities such as stargazing, bird watching and moonlit bush dinners or sundowners (weather permitting)

Daily Bush Walk

The daily walk usually commences after breakfast. This is a fascinating activity as it allows you to observe the smaller animals that you would usually not see while out on drive. Our knowledgeable ranger and tracker will enthrall you with stories about the medicinal properties of plants, local beliefs regarding the wildlife and fascinating facts regarding the animals. No additional charge.

Community Tour

The community tour takes place outside the reserve in the local village. This tour offers a fascinating insight into modern Shangaan lifestyle. You will be welcomed into a pre-primary school where the children will delight you with their songs. You can also expect to see some traditional singing and dancing as well as being welcomed into a traditional home where you will see corn being ground and be given a chance to taste traditional foods. Ulusaba Private Game Reserve has come up with some truly spectacular wedding packages for an intimate elopement in the bush or a ceremony with your loved ones that they will be talking about forever!

We have four different types of packages to fulfil different wedding dreams. All of these include 3 nights accommodation, unlimited food and beverage including any special wedding meals and unlimited French champagne, the ceremony at any one of a variety of stunning locations either within the Lodge or in the bush, a minister, preparation and processing of all legal documentation, complimentary room upgrades (subject to availability), an optional room for the bride on the eve and/or day of the wedding (subject to availability), a special wedding turn down, a wedding cake, all game viewing, a wedding gift from us and plenty of other little extras and surprises.

Child Friendly – Ulusaba is child friendly offering children a variety of activities– allowing the adults to relax, knowing that the children are enjoying the Safari.

Cubs of all ages are welcome at Rock Lodge and will be invited to take part in Ulusaba Cub's Club. Because Rock Lodge is small and intimate, and because we know each cub is different, a set programm is not offered, rather we have a set welcome pack and range of great activities that are available on request.

On arrival at Ulusaba all cubs will be given a Cub's Club Backpack which contains lots of little goodies to help keep them entertained and to help to educate them about the African Bush. In every cub's room there will be a special welcome letter and a list of phone numbers they can dial from their room so it is easy for them to get hold of other members of their pride, along with Ulusaba staff. Also for their safety, we have security guards on duty all night who will pay particular attention to rooms occupied by cubs.

Other Cub's Club features include:

A treasure hunt to help familiarise themselves with their surroundings.
Story books in their rooms and in the Lounge. These include old favourites and ones with an African or animal theme.
Educational books in their room and in the Lounge that help them get the most out of their experience in Africa.
A great range of new and classic children's DVDs and videos that they can watch in the lounge, along with music CDs.
We have lots of games up our sleeve and we always try to combine entertainment with some education.
Your ranger will be more than happy to spend time with your cubs to tell them all about the bush and the animals they see.
We regret that very young cubs (under 6 years) cannot participate in our regular game viewing programme and due to safety, cubs are not able to participate in Safari Walks, but we can arrange short excursions around Rock Lodge to spot birds, insects, lizards and so on.
We can arrange bedtime story telling in the Lounge complete with milk and cookies, or whatever normally helps get your cubs ready for bed!
On departure, all cubs will be invited to become permanent members of Ulusaba Cub's Club and will receive a bi-annual newsletter and a birthday card.

In addition to this we can also arrange Cub's Cuisine if you wish, such as pizza, toasties, pasta etc. and a free babysitting service is available, however please be aware that off-duty staff who have experience with children are used for this, due to our location we do not have professional child carers available, but with advance notice this could be arranged at an extra cost.

If you have a rather large pride with lots of cubs or if you'd just prefer it, we can arrange a set programme provided we get advance notice - just let us know the ages and interests of the cubs concerned, and we'll come up with something to keep them entertained.
