Self Drive
DAY 1
Arrive Johannesburg and collect your rental car.
Drive to Pilgrims rest via the spectacular scenery of the Eastern Transvaal. Travel through stunning gorges passing quaint towns on the way.
This region is one of the most spectacular in South Africa. Visit to the Sudwala caves and the mac mac falls.
There are breathtaking views of the Lowveld from the granite outcrop of Pinnacle Rock.
Arrive Pilgrims rest , a charming mining town with many quaint shops and lovely buildings along the street.
Check in to hotel and rest of afternoon to explore this town.
Dinner at one of the excellent restaurants in the town all within walking distance of the hotel.

Take malaria precautions. Call your GP prior to departure. No other vaccinations are neccessary. In the parks drink bottled water.
DAY 2
Breakfast and check out. We take a drive to the world famous Kruger National park. Drive toward the lovely town of Phallaborwa and enter the Kruger at the Phalaborwa gate.
Full day activities in Kruger. Plenty of exciting trails in search of the Big Five.
Lion, Elephant and Rhino abound in this part of the park. Excellent maps will be supplied allowing one to take full advantage of a visit to this magnificent wonderland.
Kindly remain in the vehicle at all times except where it is clearly marked otherwise.
Do not swim in the rivers.

DAY 3
Full day to explore the park which is 20 000 square Km in size.
As night falls many visitors will have a barbeque and listen to the wild sounds of the night. Often animals come to the perimeter fence attracted by the smells of food. Be sure to bring a good flashlight with you to view the game at the fence. Including Lion ,hyena and leopard.
A Night drive in open 4x4 vehicle is included. This is a excellent time to see game and the vehicle goes off road into the bush.

The rest camps are situated inside the park and are surrounded by wild animals. The accommodation is self catering thatch rondavels with kitchenettes. There is a restaurant and shop for breakfast and dinner or private barbeque facilities.

DAY 4
Full day activities in the park. There are main tarred roads and the speed limit is 50km per hour. There are many arterial road which are not tarred. One may only leave the vehicle at designated points. A good idea is to plan your journey with a stop at one of the many pick nic spots for lunch. Watch out for the leopards though.

DAY 6
Early morning drive followed by breakfast and check out.
Early morning drive through the park before leaving at Numbi gate. On toward the lovely town of Nelspruit and on towards Barbeton/
This charming Lowveld town became famous for the great gold rush of 1884.The finds were soon eclipsed by the new discoveries of the Witwatersrand.
On toward Badplaas a lovely little town with healing hot spas. We continue to Swaziland and overnight at the Lugogo Sun hotel. Magnificent scenery and mountain passes dominate the day.

DAY 8:
Travel toward the Umfolozi/Hlhuluwe game reserve for another exciting game experience.It is one of the largest parks in SA and the roads are good(not tarred) One hour away is the St Lucia wetlands.One of the few world heritage areas in Africa.
Crocs and Hippos are a distinct threat in the lakes so do not swim. Excellent idea for a boat cruises.
Arrive at Hilltop for a evening game drive in open 4 x 4 vehicle.

Full day game activities.

Day 10: Garden Route.
After breakfast we depart for the famous garden route. Travel toward the Tsitsikamma forest and the Storms river mouth. Visit to the Big Tree a 800 year old yellowwood tree 36 metres high.
Stop at monkeyland primate reserve for a tour.
Travel to the Tsitsikamma national park, which has tremendous views of the indiginous forest meeting the Indian Ocean. Lunch at the reserve.
On toward Plettenberg bay referred to by Bartholemew Dias as Bahia formosa (the beautiful bay).
Arrive Plettenberg bay and check in to your hotel.

DAY 11:
Breakfast followed by a drive up the Outeniqua pass passing the town of George.
Dramatic change of vegetation as one arrives in the arid little karoo desert.
Passing the hops fields you travel into Ostrich country.
Arrive town of Oudtshoorn and proceed to the Cango caves for a excellent tour. (2 hours)
Visit of the Cheetah breeding program and also the African Nile crocodile farm.
Drive to the Safari Ostrich farm for a tour of the farm and the opportunity to ride an ostrich ( at your own risk).
Lunch is at the farm.
Afternoon tour of the top section of the farm for a demonstration of a ostrich race.
Return to town and overnight.

DAY 12: CAPE TOWN
Over 3 million inhabitants and a excellent warm climate give the traveller a never to be forgotten experience.
Visit of Table Mountain highly recommend. Victoria & Alfred waterfront has over 200 shops and 40 restaurants.

DAY 13: CAPE OF GOOD HOPE & CAPE POINT
Drive to Cape of Good hope via the Atlantic followed by a trip to seal Island.Arrive nature reserve and watch out for baboons. Passing the Hout Bay harbour , take a boat cruise to seal Island to see thousands of cape fur seals in their natural environment.
On toward Ou Kaapse weg offering sweeping views over Cape Town and the distant Hottentots holland mountain range.
Arrive at the Cape Point nature reserve where the two oceans meet.(Atlantic and Indian).
Lunch at good seafood restaurant.
Visit of penguin colony followed by a walk in the famous Kirstenbosch gardens.

DAY 14 : WINELANDS OF THE CAPE
Depart Cape Town via the N1 and drive to the lovely town of Paarl.Visit of the stunning Taal monument.
Continue to the Fairview wine estate for a cheese and wine tasting. This estate produces excellent chardonnay and very good goat milk cheese.
On toward the French huguenot town of Franschoek for a visit of the lovely Memorial and museum.
Visit of this charming town with lunch at La petite ferme.
On toward Delaire wine estate for a tasting (very good Merlot).
On toward Stellenbosch famous for its lovely Cape Dutch architecture for a visit of the museum and to stroll in its oak lined streets.
Visit of the Spier wine estate for another tasting.
Breakfast followed by check out and self drive to airport to drop off car and flight home or join extension programs.

DAY 15: CITY & TABLE MOUNTAIN
Depart for Cape Town via the city centre. We pass the famous flower and flea markets as well as parliament. Past St Georges cathedral we make our way to Table Mountain.
Arrive at the lower cable way station for a 6 minute funicular ride to the summit.
From 1086 metres the views are sweeping. The summit is 6 km long and host to a variety of flora and wildlife.
We return via signal hill and the Malay quarter with fine examples of Cape Malay architecture.
This is one of Cape Towns oldest suburbs.
Visit of the excellent SA museum and the Dutch East India company gardens (1670).
Passing SA's oldest building, the castle, (1666) we make our way to the Victoria and Alfred waterfront for the tour end or return to your hotel.
