Arrival JHB Collect rental car and drive to your hotel for overnight.

DAY 2

JOHANNESBURG - SAFARI KWA ZULU NATAL

Drive to Johannesburg Airport to connect with a flight to Richards Bay.

Met by our representative and transfer to the superb Phinda Vlei lodge

Arrive for lunch and game drive

DAY 3

Early morning Game Drive in open Safari vehicles to view the Big Five followed by breakfast.

After breakfast, Game Walks with a ranger are available.

Lunch at the lodge.

DAY 5

Rental car delivered to lodge.

Check out and continue towards Richards Bay

Passing the sugarcane fields and lush sub tropical vegetation arrive at Shakaland cultural village for a show and lunch

After lunch continue towards Durban. Lovely warm Indian ocean and lovely beaches

Passing Durban , join the N3 and on towards Howick and Notingham road

DAY 9

Drive from Penwarn to East London - routing will follow

OVERNIGHT: THE LOERIE HIDE - Bed and Breakfast

This is a forested hideaway in the heart of the town of East London. Each bedroom has its own private entrance, patio or deck. Enjoy breakfast on the bougainvillaea-clad deck overlooking the Nahoon River Valley. The African Style Safari Room has a wooden deck surrounded by indigenous vegetation and abundant birdlife, including the Knysna Loerie.

Enjoy the "African Experience" in the well-appointed thatched longdavel. This spacious room contains a double bed, sleeper couch, en-suite shower and small dining table.

DAY 12 - KNYSNA

DAY 13

Depart towards George via the spectacular Montagu pass. This pass was the original one linking the coast to the Klein Karoo.The road was built in the mid 19th century and winds itself deep into the mountain and raises towards the kloof.

Passing the most southerly hops fields in the world, arrive in the dry and beautiful little Karroo.This area is home to over 250 000 ostrich.

Arrive at an Ostrich farm for an excellent tour and the opportunity to ride an ostrich.

Then towards the spectacular Robinson pass with sweeping views over the Langeberg Mountains. This range is home to the lovely Fynbos floral kingdom as well as the Cape Chacma baboon and cape mountain leopard.

Continue through the pass towards Mossel bay and a short drive back to Knysna

Option to cycle down Robison pass driver will collect cycles.

DAY 14 - CAPE TOWN

Departure towards Swellendam with lunch in the lovely town. Excellent examples of Cape Dutch architecture.

Then on towards Stanford and Hermanus. And the lovely coastal road to Cape Town via False Bay

DAY 15 CITY AND TABLE MOUNTAIN

Self Drive or as a Guided Tour

On a clear day, the distinctive shape of Table Mountain can be seen from up to 200km out to sea, while its summit provides spectacular views of the city, its Waterfront and Harbour below, the majestic Hottentots Holland mountains to the East and Cape Point to the south.

The Table Mountain cableway underwent a R90 million upgrade in 1997 and the new system - a combination of Swiss and South African Engineering - boasts revolving floors in the new cable cars, giving passengers a 360 degree panoramic view on their way up the mountain.

The excursion is strictly weather permitting. After descending the mountain, you will depart on a tour of the "Mother City"

The tour of the City takes one past Lion's Head to Signal Hill with its dramatic views of Cape Town, Table Bay, Robben Island, Sea Point and Camps Bay. Signal Hill was first used as a semaphore post for communicating with ships at sea and is still home to the Noon Day Gun, which is fired at midday every day except Sunday. The tour continues past the Grand Parade and City Hall to take in the South African Cultural History Museum, which is housed in a former slave lodge. The tour passes through the colourful Bo-Kaap or Cape Malay Quarter with its quaint buildings and cobbled streets.

DAY 16 WINELANDS OF THE CAPE

Self Drive or as a Guided Tour

Depart toward the wine areas of South Africa. This country is the world's 8th largest producer approx.twice the size of Switzerland's wine industry. SA has about 100 000 ha under vine concentrated in the Western Cape. The best areas are Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschoek and the Swartland.

On toward the town of Paarl and visit of Paarl nature reserve and Taal monument.

Passing Zandwijk (the only kosher wine estate in SA) we make our way to Fairview for a wine tasting. This estate has 240 ha under vine and has won numerous medals especially for its excellent Chardonnay.

They also have over 500 Swiss Saanen goats with which they make excellent cheese. This will also be available for tasting.

On toward the French Huguenot town and visit of the memorial. Followed by a wine tasting at La province cellars (18 ha 770 cases)

Lunch in this charming town. (Le Ballon Rouge or Clos Cabriere)

After lunch we visit the oldest Huguenot wine estate Boschendal for a tasting. This vineyard was the 1 st to introduce Blanc de noir in SA. 80 % of their production is white wine although they have a very good red called Lanoy.

Down the lovely Helshoogte pass for a visit to Stellenbosch, a charming 17th century town famous for its Cape Dutch architecture.

Visit of the excellent Dorp st museum.

Late afternoon return to hotel.

DAY 17 CAPE OF GOOD HOPE & CAPE POINT

Self Drive or as a Guided Tour

Depart for full day Cape point tour. We travel along the Atlantic seaboard passing the twelve appostles. Drive past Camps Bay Named after a German immigrant Ernst Von Kampz On past oudekraal toward Hout Bay. An old woodcutters outpost named wood bay. Visit to the picturesque fishing harbour and an optional tour by boat to seal island. (40 min return) Hout Bay Harbour. Depart Hout Bay over Chapmans Peak - continueing towards Noordhoek -with it's spectacular beach, traveling along the Atlantic Coastline - passing the seaside villages of Kommetjie and Scarborough - with it's supply of Cape Rock Lobster. We then proceed towards Cape of Good Hope nature reserve. (8500 ha) 7 Species of antelope including the Eland ,Bontebok and Cape mountain Zebra are to be found here. Down to Cape Point, the most South Westerly point of Africa (18 deg. East. Lat, 34 deg South Long) Arrive at Cape Point

Depart Cape point for visit to Cape of Good Hope.

Lunch at Seafood restaurant The Black Marlin ( own account )

Depart Restaurant via the lovely town of Simonstown.Named after the first Governor of the Cape Simon Van Der Stel.Also an important Naval base for the British who occupied the town for 150 years.

We visit a lovely Penguin colony at Boulders beach. One of three African Penguin colonies inhabiting the mainland.

On through the lovely suburb of Constantia and past the Cecelia state forest to the world famous Kirstenbosch gardens. These 400 ha gardens are over 100 years old and boast only flora from the floral kingdom known as Fynbos.This includes the Protea family. Over 6000 species of Flora make up this kingdom. It is one of the 5 floral kingdoms found in the world.
