Truly the flagship of the South African national parks, Kruger is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals. Man's interaction with the Lowveld environment over many centuries - from bushman rock paintings to majestic archaeological sites like Masorini and Thulamela - is very evident in the Kruger National Park. These treasures represent the cultures, persons and events that played a role in the history of the Kruger National Park and are conserved along with the park's natural assets.

Day 1

Arrive Johannesburg and collect your rental car and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon option of visit to the fabulous Gold reef city or the excellent Lesedi cultural village. Also visit the famous Sterkfontein caves(30 km) the "cradle of mankind."

Or drive to Pretoria (administrative capital) also known as the "Jacaranda city". In October more than 60 000 Jacaranda trees blossom with mauve flowers.Vist the Voortrekker monument representing the story of the great trek. This is depicted on a 93 m marble frieze. Breathtaking views of the city. Also interesting is Paul Kruger house and Melrose house where the Anglo boer war treaty was signed.

Or Drive to Pilgrims Rest for overnight at the lovely Royal hotel - Recommended.

DAY 2

Drive to the charming town of Nelspruit via the spectacular scenery of the Eastern Transvaal. Travel through stunning gorges passing quaint towns on the way.

This region is one of the most spectacular in South Africa.

There are breathtaking views of the Lowveld from the granite outcrop of Pinnacle Rock.

Enter the fabulous Kruger park at the Paul Kruger gate and on to the first rest camp at Skukuza.

OVERNIGHT: SKUKUZA CAMP - Self-Catering

Take malaria precautions. Call your GP prior to departure. No other vaccinations are neccesary. In the parks drink bottled water.

DAY 3

Full day activities in Kruger. Plenty of exciting trails in search of the Big Five.

Lion, Elephant and Rhino abound in this part of the park. Excellent maps will be supplied allowing one to take full advantage of a visit to this magnificent wonderland.

Kindly remain in the vehicle at all times except where it is clearly marked otherwise.

Do not swim in the rivers.

DAY 4

Full day to explore the park which is 20 000 square Km in size.

As night falls many visitors will have a barbeque and listen to the wild sounds of the night. Often animals come to the perimeter fence attracted by the smells of food. Be sure to bring a good flashlight with you to view the game at the fence. Including Lion ,hyena and leopard.

A Night drive in open 4x4 vehicle is included. This is a excellent time to see game and the vehicle goes off road into the bush.

The rest camps are situated inside the park and are surrounded by wild animals. The accommodation is self catering thatch rondavels with kitchenettes. There is a restaurant and shop for breakfast and dinner or private barbeque facilities.

DAY 5

Full day activities in the park. There are main tarred roads and the speed limit is 50km per hour. There are many arterial road which are not tarred. One may only leave the vehicle at designated points. A good idea is to plan your journey with a stop at one of the many picnic spots for lunch. Watch out for the leopards though.

DAY 8

Early morning drive followed by breakfast and check out. On toward Johannesburg via Sabie and Lydenburg . Down the Long tom pass referring to the British canons during the Boer war.

Arrive Johannesburg and return rental car at the airport or your hotel.
