Kwa Zulu Natal Overview
Durban is the Capital City of Kwa Zulu Natal. Thekweni - being the Zulu name for Durban , meaning “ The Place where the Earth and Ocean Meet “ is the perfect name, with miles and miles of golden beaches.
A subtropical climate and warm barmy weather for most of the year, Durban is a popular holiday destination.
Close to Pietermartizberg, you find the Natal Midlands and the beautiful Drakensberg Mountain range.
The Drakensberg Mountains, with their awe-inspiring basalt cliffs, snowcapped in winter, tower over riverine bush, lush yellowwood forests and cascading waterfalls, form a massive barrier separating KwaZulu-Natal from the Kingdom of Lesotho.
The only road access to the Drakensberg is via Sani Pass, which at the top, boasts the highest pub on Africa, 3 000 metres above sea level.
The Drakensberg offers unique walks and hiking for the energetic and a fantastic selection of accommodation in the area.
Steeped in history – visit the Battlefields of the Zulu and Boer wars – taking you back to a time of this famous conflict. These areas offer a fascinating insight into a part of South African history.
Kwa Zula Natal’s private Game Reserves are situated further up North, and offer outstanding game viewing in the area. Phinda Private Game Reserve being an example of a luxury Game Lodge offering a host of activities, and naturally superb game viewing.
Not far from these Game reserve areas you find the Elephant Coast – north of St Lucia [ a World Heritage Site ] , home to the largest herd of indigenous African Elephants and Dolphin Coast - enjoy the pleasures of scuba diving and deep sea fishing.
