Sumptuous Cuisine & Elegant Bars at The Palace of the Lost City
In keeping with the amazing surroundings of the Palace of the Lost City, all the restaurants serve exquisite cuisine. The Villa del Palazzo overlooks the gracious pool and appears to float like a jewel box of colour on a cushion of sparkling water. It specializes in North Italian a la Carte dinners. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at the beautifully laid out Crystal Court at the Palace of the Lost City. The meals are light and delicious and strongly influenced by the cuisine of South Africa as well as Africa.
The Palace of the Lost City also boasts two beautifully designed bars. Both are ideal for enjoying traditional cocktails common to South Africa, pre-dinner drinks or a nightcap. At the Tusk Bar and Lounge no detail has been spared with three dominating arches, each made in the form of two huge teak elephant tusks. Adjoining the Villa del Palazzo you will find the elegant Palm Court Lounge of the Palace of the Lost City, offering Butler service in true South Africa colonial style, remnant of days gone past.
The Palace of the Lost City is an extraordinary fantasy stemming from a North African legend. The legend tells us that a tribe from an ancient civilization of Africa brought their proud traditions of mighty architecture, luxurious hospitality and love of nature to an ancient volcanic crater they called the Valley of the Sun in South Africa. Here they built a Palace which was destroyed by an earthquake hence the name The Palace of the Lost City. Today, the legend has come to life again and the Palace has been restored to its former glory in the magnificent surrounds of South Africa.
The entrance foyer of the Palace of the Lost City rises cathedral-like to its lofty, painted ceiling three story's above the life-sized model of Shawu, the elephant, which guards the mosaic-tiled courtyard leading off the Elephant Walk. Shawu is one of the magnificent seven elephants known to South Africa, these being the seven Kruger National Park elephants with the largest tusks. Shawu died of an infection caused by old bullet wounds in 1982.
