Here’s our take. My wife may add further comments. First and foremost, Rhys was a fabulous guide. He was informative, not only about the planned trips, but about all things South African. He was tireless, never looking at his watch(literally or figuratively) to say we’re running out of time.

Most planned ½ day trips lasted much longer to assure that we were not rushed and that we saw everything possible. Next. The hotels. Cape Grace exceeded expectations. Many friends had stayed there and were quite complimentary so we expected a 5* hotel.

What we didn’t expect was the extraordinary service, from the lobby employees knowing our names to the car service and everything in between. The breakfasts, as were all breakfasts everywhere, were first rate, usually meaning no need for lunch. The dining room for dinner was 1st rate. La Residence is almost indescribable. One can only say that it is an experience never forgotten. We only stayed one night at Rosenhof. The room was excellent and the dinner quite good. The Plettenberg cannot be topped in the Garden Route. Everything was tops-the room, its view, the breakfast, the dinner, the service.
The itinerary. The only mild disappointment was the Featherbed Preserve. It’s a fairly short tram ride with little to see and fairly boring commentary. The whate watch was not productive(no breeching whales) but well worth doing. The primate reserve, the bird sanctuary and the cheetah center(all done in one day) were experiences we’d recommend to everyone. Equally enjoyable was the meerkat morning. The guide showed not only a deep knowledge of the animals, but a true affection.

All the Cape Town trips were fine. We would not drop any from our recommendations to friends.
Staying 2 nights in the wine country as opposed to a day trip from Cape Town was a good decision. We were not rushed and best of all, we got to stay at La Residence.
Rattrays was everything we expected. We don’t know how any reserve could be

Hi Kathi

Sorry for taking time to get in touch but it really has been hectic since we got back from Africa.

Thank you so much for organizing what was a fabulous trip. Jan and I knew what to expect, but I guess you are always a bit concerned when you organise things on behalf of others. Suffice it to say everyone had a great time – Clive and Marcelle have repeatedly said how marvellous it was, and are hoping to return in the future with their daughters. For Jeni, it was to be the trip of a lifetime, having always wanted to travel to Africa, and it certainly met all her expectations and more.

I’m very appreciative of the work you had to do to co-ordinate the comings and goings of our group, and I must say, once again , everything ran very smoothly. Transfers, tours and so on, there were absolutely no hiccups.

We can now appreciate your advice to stay on the Zimbabwe side of Victoria Falls - it gave us a completely different perspective and the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge was terrific. Camp Moremi in the Okavango Delta was first class, and in particular the staff were wonderful.

The apartment in Cape Town was sensational , I don’t think I would be renting it out if it were mine! And Mark’s tour of the winelands was a great day.

Londolozi was once again a highlight – the game viewing was brilliant the accommodation was tremendous and the staff were fabulous. It was Jeni’s birthday whilst we were there and they really made an effort to make it even more special.

Jan and I enjoyed Pezula last time we travelled the Garden Route, but I must say that we were even more impressed by our stay at Tsala Lodge.

Whilst the game viewing at Samara was limited (as we expected), it was more than compensated for by the stunning scenery of the Karoo, and once again the very attentive staff, and facilities of the lodge.

The only tense moments came when we flew out to make our connection at Port Elizabeth - the only day in the

Little Kulala - This place is right out of Architectual Digest, or Conde Nast. When the couple with whom we were to set out for the trip to the Dunes were "missing in action" (i.e. failed to show up 25 minutes after expected departure time), the guide, Willie, took the initative and got us into a vehicle with 2 German couples for a very enjoyable outing. I think one of Wanda's highlights was climbing the "Big Daddy" sand dune and then descending into the Dead Valley - a very surreal place. The accommodation was absolutely deluxe. This is not a place for great game viewing; it is a place to see scenery unlike any I have seen on the planet!

Desert Rhino Camp - This was our tented camp experience - in the style of Streep/Redford from "Out of Africa". The scenery here is so vast. We were fortunate to find black rhinos on both rhino tracking trips. But I make this observation: at Desert Rhino, the guides are VERY sensitive to the impact of tourism on the rhino - so much so that we were asked to dress in greens/browns to maintain low profile. We were not able to get any closer than 120 meters - indeed it seemed a little farther than that. Good that we had binoculars. I mention this in contrast to Ongava rhino experience - see below. The staff at Desert Rhino were wonderful. We were serenaded at dinner by the entire staff to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Agnes, the Rhino Camp manager is a tremendous resource person...very outgoing/very interested in ensuring that we had the time of our lives.

Ongava Lodge - I think that there are 2 Ongava Lodges: the Ongava Lodge of the Guides, namely Willem - the best guide of the whole vacation. And the Ongava Lodge of the adminstrative staff who seemed to lack interest/enthusiasm. Asked to be seated at empty table overlooking waterhole, we were told it was reserved, only to have the same waiter reverse course when we moved to another table with a lesser view. The

Hi Kathi,

As promised I am setting out my commentary on this wonderful vacation, with a copy to Wanda in case she wishes to add/modify anything.

First things first: THANK YOU SO MUCH. The arrangements you made for us provided us with an unforgettable adventure holiday in Namibia. Your advice with respect to the V+A Hotel in Cape Town was "spot on". Everything went like clockwork. And I really appreciated your tracking down my lost sunglasses and securing their very speedy retrieval to our hotel.

Specifics:

Cape Grace Hotel - We had reserved here before we were introduced to African Welcome Safaris. Actually it was the concierge at Cape Grace with whom I spoke after making reservations who referred me to your company. Cape Grace is in that category of opulent world class hotels where everything is first class. The hotel itself is undeniably 5 star with very attentive service.

Cape Town proper - Cape Town is so remarkable that it ranks up there with the great cities of the world. We found walking along Loop/Long/Church streets and then back to Cape Grace a lot of fun. It's a very easy city for touring. The Hop on/Hop off bus is a wonderful way to see a great deal in a short period of time. We thought it was great to be able to get around on our own so easily without having to contend with travelling in a group.

Wilderness Air - The private flight arrangements were terrific. Hans was our pilot from Windhoek to Little Kulala (Geluk) and also from Geluk to Swakopmund. He really made the start of the trip for me (I used to fly, years ago and Hans made sure I had the seat up front). The scenic flight from Geluk to Swakopmund was incredible - sweeping down from the dunes over the Atlantic and then back toward a shipwreck marooned in the desert - unforgettable. The aircraft were ontime/everytime. Gee, I wish I could say that about Air Canada!

Kathi,

Apologies for the delay in my email as well - I have been meaning to thank you for all your advice. Our trip was really amazing to say the least. I think we are glad that we stayed at two different safari lodges just to get a different feel. Nevertheless, the lodges had a lot in common.

The accommodations at Elephant Plains were some of the best I have ever stayed at. Jen and I had our own building to ourselves, including a porch and outdoor shower that overlooked a beautiful plain. Arathusa's accommodations were a little bit smaller but still very spectacular - they have a small lake outside that always brings hippos and thirsty animals. I think overall the accommodations at EP were slightly better but I thought the rangers at Arathusa were better - we saw more animals at Arathusa and our rangers seemed like some of the best in the world. Overall I would highly recommend both of these lodges and really cant complain about anything. It really was an unforgettable experience and I am already wanting to go back. I understand what you meant when you told me you can never have enough Safari - you get a different experience every day.

Blyde River Canyon also turned out to be a great recommendation. The area actually kind of reminded me of the Southwest in the US. We had a lot of fun driving around the area, visiting random waterfalls, the three Rondawels, God's Window and Bourke's Potholes. This part of the trip was really fun and I would also highly recommend it.

We also really enjoyed Victoria Falls and Cape Town as well. Cape Town actually reminds me a lot of San Francisco. Overall we had a great time in Africa. Thanks so much for all your help and advice - I am glad we listened to you! I attached a few pictures of our travels below, some of which are framed on my wall! Thanks again.

Hi Kathi –

I wanted to let you know we greatly enjoyed our holiday. The weather in Cape Town was perfect – we were very fortunate with it. The Victoria and Albert hotel worked very well – great value and wonderful service. As I said when we spoke one day Reese was exceptional on the day we went to Stellenbosch.

Lions Sands was incredible – I know we got lucky with Ivory Lodge – but I tell the truth knowing what I know now I would pay full price for it. It is that special. The ranger we had (Gervie – misspelled no doubt) was incredibly knowledgeable. I learned so much – it made it more than just an animal viewing experience.

Chobe was awesome – the new lodge [ Ngoma Safari Lodge ] you put us in has the most incredible view and being new was a real treat. A few teething pains as you might expect – minor staff attentiveness issues. They also in a way suffered from us having come from Ivory Lodge and the ranger I mention above. But the bottom-line is you can confidently recommend this lodge to people. We would easily stay again ourselves.

Vic Falls Hotel was – well – the Vic Falls Hotel. We loved it – like stepping back in time. It has a cute chapel – we met with a priest in town and the next morning we renewed our wedding vows in the chapel at 7:30 AM. The hotel staff was so gracious about this spur of the moment decision – we are grateful to them. We also went on the helicopter ā€˜Flight of Angels’ flight. It was worth every penny – I would strongly recommend it and should have booked it before we even left.

Lastly – your effort to retrieve Cynthia’s camera case was so much appreciated – we know this took extra effort and we are grateful to you.

Thank you again,

Bruce Laws

I have thought of you both often over the past week and apologize for not sending this note earlier. It is always crazy coming back home after an extended vacation and the days get away too quickly.

Amy and I had a fantastic trip to Africa! We were so pleased with the accommodations, the itinerary, and the people we encountered…just a wonderful experience!

I want to thank you both for all the time and energy that you put into building this itinerary for us as it was all we hoped for and then more. We were lucky to have very good weather on our journey. We did not see a drop of rain for the entire 17 days, and we were well prepared for the various temperatures that we encountered.

Highlights / Comments of each stop throughout the trip…

• Cape Town is a spectacular city, and we learned so much from Rhys. He is very professional as well as flexible, and we really enjoyed our time travelling in and around the city with him. The Cape Grace is a superb hotel with great service and so well located on the waterfront. We were lucky on the weather as it was beautiful every day.

• Bush Lodge [ Sabi Sabi ] was a very good choice for our safari portion. We were pleased with accommodations, food and service. The only downside was that there were a lot of kids on property while we were there. Lauren, the Resort Manager, and Fred, our Ranger, took very good care of us and were fantastic people. We saw the Big 5 numerous times and the photo opportunities never stopped.

• Livingstone was a new experience as there was a dramatic difference in leaving South Africa. Victoria Falls was amazing and the helicopter ride topped off the view. The cruise and elephant safari were great, and the lion encounter was ok. As far as the accommodations, the Royal Livingstone is a visually one of the most beautiful hotels that I have seen. Being on the property was just breathtaking. That being said, the food and service we encountered there were

Dear Kathi,

Of course, we are delighted to give feedback. We had just a SENSATIONAL visit. It was special in every way. Thanks for letting everyone know we were on honeymoon. The drawn hot baths were fantastic. But mainly the country's hospitality and joie de vivre shined. We loved every place and every person. Our only frustrations had to do with the flights - mainly errors by United in Chicago but also a little rudeness from the South African Airways staff.

In particular, we highly recommend Londolozi, and requesting Kate or Tom as the guide. Kate went out of her way to find game. She had a relaxed and knowledgable attitude. Spoke the perfect amount. Genuinely excited about every encounter. We LOVED the service level at Singita, but didn't see as many animals there, so not sure that I would recommend Singitas at the north end of Kruger. Of course, we understand this is also just the luck of being there when the animals are there, and honestly, we loved Singita anyway for the luxury and relaxing atmosphere. The staff in charge of Singita Sweni (Lianke) was the absolute best we have ever encountered. Young, energetic, and anticipating every need.

Kensington Place was super, the breakfast great. The location also good. We wished we had done a little less sightseeing, maybe just one day, or even stayed in the wine country and done a day trip to Cape Town. La Petite Ferme was super. Birkenhead was the perfect way to end the trip. Very relaxing. We can see why you use Rhys frequently. He is quite the tour guide. Very knowledgable, helpful, and flexible. Couldn't say enough and couldn't improve on him. Also, we thought Amos (picked us up in Johanesberg on our first day there for transfer to Federal Air) was super. He shared his perspective on South African history - politically sensitive, positive, and interesting.

Each time we look at the pictures, we miss South Africa more and are honestly considering another trip. I can'

Kathi,
The trip was wonderful. I though that the itinerary allowed for a good amount of time in each location. The directions were good and we never got lost, however some of the other self drive tours we did ( in
Botswana) gave us a detailed map of the location of each hotel. As for each accomedation:

Commodore: Great location, great staff, and great everything else.
Nothing negative to say, would stay here again.

Robertson: one of the more beautiful hotels we stayed at in the world.
A+++ food and wine.

Headlands: beautiful views, beautiful room, and great staff. Loved the place and the town. The manager Jean is a wonderful woman.

Beach hotel: everything average, but some unfriendly staff.

Africa Welcome Safaris: good planning, good value for money, friendly staff.

My wife and I really loved the trip. We thought the area (western cape) was beautiful and fun. I would recommend the trip to anyone, the only thing I would change would be to go to another wine region other than Robertson.

Hope this helps, if you have any more specific questions, please let me know.

Hi Siliva

Firstly, apologies for not sending this email sooner. I just wanted to say a huge ā€œthanksā€ for arranging such a fabulous holiday for Lucy and Robyn. They both said it was a fabulous trip and Lucy has told us regularly since her return it was one of the greatest experiences of her life and she is saving for us all to go back.

We all feel extremely lucky that we chanced upon your name via the ā€œTrip Advisorā€ website when we were looking at different travel options in South Africa. From our first contact with you we felt you had a great understanding of what we were after for Robyn and Lucy, and we felt comfortable from the start that you would have it all under control. We had high expectation, and as it turns out, you lived up to all those expectations – thanks.

All the very best and if we are lucky enough to travel to Africa in the future, we will surely be in contact.

Kind regards

Another fantastic trip, thanks. [ Repeat client ]

The only bad bit was Sun City but we knew it may not be our cup of tea!

I particularly liked the Dullstroom place but the directions were cut and pasted badly - not moaning as as it really is in the middle of nowhere but just in case you use them again wanted to give the feedback.

The 3 Isibindi lodges were all very good.

Had some more lifetime memories - turtles laying eggs, black mamba on the road in Kruger. We drove through Zululand between Rourkes Drift and Thonga Beach - all feels really safe round there so used the minor roads a bit more than suggested.

Hi Silvia

As we head home just wanted to tell you we had a great trip. We loved Botswana - the land and the people. Saw lots of game which was very awe inspiring. Also flying around Botswana in light planes is a super way to travel.

The only negative was our son Brendan got very ill when we were in the camps and wasn't able to truly enjoy the trip. So that was quite disappointing. The camp managers were great though in trying to help him.

Our tour around Capetown and over to Knysna was terrific and included some tremendous sightseeing, as well as a plunge off the world's highest Bungee Jump for Brendan (he did recover from his illness). You have an absolutely beautiful country and we loved out time here.

Thanks again for all your help in organizing such a memorable trip. You did a truly excellent job for us.
All the best

Kathi, we had a great time. It was definitely one of the best vacations we have had. Rhys was excellent as well and Cape Town has to be one of my favourite cities. I ended up having a friend that has been living in the area for the last 6 months so we want out with him and his FiancĆ© in the evenings. Kruger was good and we were able to see the big 5 and come on some pretty lively rides. Vic Falls was also good and the helicopter was a requirement. Botswana was pretty impressive purely based on the large amount of animals they had. We didn’t see as big a variety, but we saw hundreds of elephants and so on. We also squished in the bungi jump in the morning on the last day.

Thanks for your help, we appreciate it.

Hi Kathi,

The trip back from South Africa to Toronto, Canada was long but went very smoothly. It was hard to believe that our journey was already over. We had fun recalling our many adventures.

We can't thank you enough for stepping in from our first contact with you in Cape Town to guide us and provide excellent advice on the best itinerary for the remainder of our time in southern Africa. As you well know, we were in a serious bind after our bookings with another entity fell through. In a matter of hours you were able to quickly ascertain what our priorities were and provide very good advice on the best avenue to follow in the timeframe we had. But even more importantly, you worked with your team of handlers and quickly had a booked itinerary for a week long trip into Botswana and Zambia.

A few days later we embarked onto our safari journey that included two oustanding safari's in Botswana - each uniquely different from the other - along with a beautiful couple of days near Victoria Falls in Zambia. All the flights and connectors went very smoothly. We were always greeted whereever we landed or were driven to. But most of all, all the resorts/camps we stayed at were amazing. We experienced the most incredible array of wildlife and scenery that exceded all our expectations. The guides - OT, Pat and Paul - were superb. It was the trip of a lifetime and one for which we owe you much thanks. You are a true professional who is both thoughtful, knowledgeable with a great ability to listen to your clients. Thank you for making our trip all that is was meant to be.

Good morning Kathi,
Yesterday we arrived from our tour in South Africa and Zimbawe.
First of all to say thanks for all your help organizing such a fantastic travel and caring of us as much as you could. It is been terrific, so well organized, perfect. No problems, no mistakes, no delays. In a few days I will send to you a more detailed note with all my impressions and feelings about all. It is important to say that South Africa is a beautiful and very well developed country. You made me to love it. Be proud of your country , that has very much to offer to the world.
Thanks a lot and my best regards.

Dear Kathi,

We had a lovely time in Mosaic Farm.

The staff was adorable and the lodge perfect !
Only had 1 day of bad wheather but that was not a problem since we spent the day in front of a huge fire !

Otherwise, just note that the lodge's boat is not operating as the lagoon level is much too low !
Also, the Spook House is no longer offering dining service, so we had all our meals at the Lodge (which was absolutely delicious by the way).

Wishing you all the best and thanks again for all !

I finally have a quiet moment to sit down and follow up with you. I would like to say what a pleasure it has been to work with you on our trip, once we arrived in South Africa everything went seamlessly. The V&A Hotel was great, rooms were excellent and the staff very attentive. Breakfast was first rate and several of us dined there in the evening and the food was excellent. Interestingly I went over to the Cape Grace for dinner one evening and found the hotel and restaurant to be very stuffy, I am glad we did not stay there! Our driver Owen was excellent and Rhys the guide was also top notch. As we were delayed we missed the half day city tour which was sad. I think in the future I would do the half day city tour in the morning, cut people free for lunch on their own and then do the Kirstenbosch gardens in late afternoon. The trip to Cape Point was excellent but it makes for a long day in the bus, we visited Kirstenbosch on the way back but people were tired and didn't appreciate it as much as they could have. The Black Marlin was very good, excellent food and service and a lovely setting, would go back anytime. We were very pleased with Amakhala, staff, food, rooms and service were excellent, you probably heard that our group was very thirsty and emptied their wine cellar.

Our time in the wine country was excellent, all the visits I had set up were excellent. Owen learned to find some new wineries as he hadn't been to most of the places we visited. The Spier Hotel is convenient and very pleasant, not as nice as the V&A but very suitable. MOYO was fun and a nice change form the more formal meals we had enjoyed the two previous nights. Several people were interested in doing a safari in an area without fences, I am not sure if that means going to Kruger or perhaps Botswana, I would appreciate your suggestions on that.
Thanks for everything

Hi Kathi,
Sorry for the delay-- returning after a long away is all consuming.
We had a wonderful trip. We were both love struck and will certainly be back to Africa. I think the Italians have a saying that once you experience Africa-- you get a sickness for it or better translation might be a longing. We are certain to return, and hopefully with our children next trip.

All of your transfers were seamless. Each person who greeted us was lovely and informative.
The only part of the trip that I could have done without was all the "wasted" time in Joburg. It was fine-- but not compelling in any way. I found the city without lure.
I felt that two precious days were lost. Not sure if there could be improvement on this next time??? I realize the transfers/flights made it hard.

We loved Victoria Falls. I fell in love with the Zimbabwe people- a particularly beautiful group of people. The Hotel was lovely but sad- a grand dame in her time, whose future seems uncertain. It has suffered the misery of the economy and it's sad. The poverty was staggering. Had I understood more before arriving, I would certainly have brought things to leave. I am glad we saw the Falls. We loved the elephants and added a walking trip with the Lions and loved that too. I adopted an orphan Cheetah who had been left at 2 days old alone after his mom had been killed by a lion. His name is Sylvester and I am smitten.

Londolozi was exceptional. Our Safari was particularly brilliant. We saw Leopards, Lions as well as the birth of an African Buffalo and the death of one (6 adolescent lions took the life of a male- we saw the kill from the stalking to the death) Quite a privilege indeed. I am very conscious now about who I say what to as I learned that what we experienced -- some can spend a lifetime in search of. It's all wonderful, from every spider, bird, star or tangled tree, the bush is now a part of my soul.

Cape Town is a marvelous city. Full of life, culture and natural b

Dear Silvia
I am back since wednesday and I would like to thank you and your agency for your help in organizing a piece of my trip in South Africa.
Everything was perfect, I enjoyed more specially the train from Joburg to Capetown and the African Welcome program as well. Guides , drivers and accomodation were very well and I was lucky to observe the Big Five , among so many beautiful things to admire in SA.

I hope to come in SA again in the future.

We made it back safely from Botswana earlier last week. Fantastic trip with lots of memories. Like getting stuck in the Okavanga for about 1 h after sunset in the middle of a waterhole. That was a bit scary, but we obviously were not eaten, except by mosquitoes.

The Serengeti was certainly the highlite. They moved us to the Serengeti safari Lodge for 1 night and that was great. We saw a very different area from the Kiriwa but definitely the 5 star tents were our favourite!

In any event, many thanks for all the arrangements. Even Botswana was a treat. But the Falls are spectacular and the elephant ride was actually a lot of fun.

We got back a week ago today and still trying to fight off the jet lag after a long, straight west to east flight.

When we finalised the itinerary many months ago you commented it would be a fantastic holiday and that is exactly how it turned out. Every part of it was fabulous and greatly enjoyed by all 4 of us, although the girls certainly thought the safari was a particular highlight, as well as Walking with the Lions tour we did at Vic Falls.

The Falls were spectacular although we did get rather wet! Luckily we expected that and allowed for it. The Zambese sunset cruise was a little boring unless you were prepared to drink a lot of alcohol. The Vic Falls Safari Lodge was very good and beautifully located.

The Blue Train was a fabulous day and night of decadence although it is not really well suited to children, unless they are near-adult. My wife and I absolutely loved it.

Capetown was great, we were lucky to be able to get up Table Mountain and Signal Hill with clear visibility on our first afternoon there. The Cape Tour was good, although my wife probably would have liked to spend more time at Kirstenbosch, since she is a keen gardener. We also did a trip to Robben Island which our girls actually suggested (to avoid a day in the wineries I suspect) and they did find it very interesting. The Waterfront was also much enjoyed, especially by the shoppers in the family.

Virtually all the accommodation was good. De Waterkant was a great choice, easy walk to Cape Quarter for shops and supermarket and the appartment was terrific with a fabulous view. The Balalaika in JNB was excellent. Only the Southern Sun Pretoria was disappointing but it was after all just a place to park for the night on our itenerary.

Continued from above ....

The Tanzanian part of our holiday was awesome. We chose Tanzania partly because we had friends who went there and loved it, also better suited than some other places (like Botswana) for that time of year. Also we wanted to see the Serengeti, the wildebeest migration and the Ngorongoro crater, all of these breathtaking and unforgettable experiences. Having a personal guide for such a safari is absolutely essential. The accommodations were also very good, especially the tented lodges, Kusini Lodge being a particular highlight.

I have hundreds of fabulous picures and would happily send you some; but perhaps you had better let me know what you would like? Pics of VicFalls, Blue Train, Capetown, animals, Tanzanian safari? Let me know and I will email them soon.

Overall we had a fabulous time and in large part this was facilitated by the careful and detailed pre-planning and arrangements which you and Kathi so assiduously put in place for us; and we were also very impressed with the ease and efficiency that slight alterations to the plans could be made while the holiday was in progress. We were all greatly impressed with the professionalism and efficiency of your firm, and would gladly recommend you to any friends or acquaintances who might be considering travel to Africa. Thanks again from all of us.

Hi Silvia,

Thanks for reminding me. I’ve been telling everyone that this trip is my favourite ever and was way beyond my expectations.

Here’s a summary of my mental notes:

Top experiences:

Ngala Safari is amazing and I would strongly recommend it.
De Zeekoe Guest Farm was beautiful and relaxing and we wish we had more time there. Ostrich riding at HIGHGATE OSTRCH SHOW FARM was the best laugh we had.
Shark Diving was fantastic but Brian MacFarlane and his crew made it so enjoyable! Best service in South Africa!
Bungee jumping off the Bloukrans bridge - but that was only for my son and I.

Also loved:

Victoria Falls Tour
River Cruise at Victoria Falls
Safari Cruise Botswana
Views from Signal Hill of the ā€˜cloth’ on Table Mountain
Table Mountain experience was nice but the queue was terrible
Drive to Cape Point including penguins – unfortunately visibility was very bad at Cape Point
Waterfront shopping in Cape Town
Constantia Wine Tasting

Not so much:

We wouldn’t change the fact that we stayed at the Pezulu Tree Farm because it was such a unique experience and the staff was nice. BUT, the food was terrible and there was no lunch. Also no Air Conditioning.

The Elephant Hills Hotel has so much potential but the staff was probably the most difficult to deal with of any hotel we have ever experienced.

I would not recommend Protea Fire and Ice. Badly maintained and organized.

I’m sure I missed some points that my wife might add but I think that covers most of it. Thank you so much for the most memorable holiday I have ever had.

We had a fabulous vacation and our very pleased with how it all unfolded. We loved your country and all want to return someday. I only wish we had had the opportunity to see it through the eyes of some of our dear friends. After each stop we couldn’t imagine that things could get more beautiful but they did.
Our first guided day with such a comfortable vehicle and pleasant guide, was so exciting. Beginning with the baboons crossing the rode and seeing the penguins etc. we could not have been more thrilled. Our township tour was very important to see and we had a good experience with the help of our guide. Unfortunately our timing was off as everyone was on holiday. We loved Oudtshoorn, the views from De Zeekoe were how I pictured Africa to look like. The wine country was stunning and enjoyed our time so much. I am so pleased we ended with Lion Sands as it truly was a highlight that we will carry with us forever. We got so lucky with our ranger, he was outstanding and the accommodations were incredible. We saw everything we could have and more.

Dear Kathi,[ Self Drive Namibia ]

This short e-mail to tell you we are back to Geneva since last Wednesday after 3 weeks in Namibia ! The 8 of us would like to thank you very much for the organization of our vacation. We all had a great great time and everything went smoothly from the car rental to all the accommodations and back to Windhoek. It was just perfect ! All the lodges were different and at the same time very well located. We had no problem finding our way around (thanks sometimes to the gps !)

We came back with 1 million of photos we still have to sort out. As soon as this is done, I will send you a picture of the Lamps party (I hope I will find one with the 8 of us !)

We also came back with 10 kilos of dust and sand, thanks to the now famous (for us) graveled roads + thousands of memories.

July seems to be quieter than August and it suited us well.

Many many thanks again and I wish you a nice month of August,

Kind regards,

Dominique Ecoffey

Thanks for everything Alex!!!! Your call with Lion Sands could not have been better. On Father's Day I was with my Dad and he did not make the morning drive, but on the afternoon drive, we saw ALL big 5 in the 3 hour stretch....not sure what the odds are on that but I would imagine it doesn't get much better than that! Also, our first visit that day was a leopard....we watched it for a while and waited for the other group to come so they could watch, and right after we left they got to see the leopard take down an impala...even the guide couldn't believe it. Even though we didn't see it live we got to watch the videos they took and that was fine since it only took about 3 seconds for the thing to die. Our drive ended with our last big 5 sighting, which was two lion at night time. I couldn't believe we were driving through the brush at night looking for a couple lion...and then there they were! 2 male brothers that even wrestled aroudn a bit....What a rush!!!! And what a Fathers Day present!!!....we saw so many of the big 5 I had plenty time to take some pix with my iPhone as well....like the attached photo which Lion Sands could almost use on their website even though it was taken with a phone. Thanks again...you made me look like a travel genius with my Dad and brother.

We could not have had a better time in South Africa either....wonderful host country and experience.

Best Regards,

John Cusumano

We are waiting for our flight back home, and I wanted to thank you for all your efforts and kindness into organising this wonderful trip for us. We had a fabulous time and enjoyed every minute of it. We will of course spread the word and mention your companies if anyone is interested in visiting South Africa.
Dorienne - thank for taking us around yesterday. We had a great time. Sorry if we did not call today. We just tried to rest as much as we could before our 21 hour journey back home.
We fully intend to come back with our daughter this time next year or the following year, and the organisation for the visits will be easier as this time we had to organise everything around the world cup games.
Thank you once again and I am sure we will in touch soon.
Kind regards

David Levy

I just wanted to send you a quick email to say thank you for all your help and our honeymoon was everything we could have hoped for. South Africa is an amazing place and Mark and I will be coming back for sure and will be using African Welcome Safaris.

We experienced everything African from bungy jumping of Bloukrans Bridge, meeting baby cheetah cubs, white lions cubs, riding elephants and even riding ostrichs (very interesting). Buffelsdrift Game Lodge was amazing, so nice to go to sleep listening to the hippos :) We spent a few afternoons on our desk just watching the elephants, hippos and rhinos. Accomodation in PE, Jefferys Bay, Plett Bay and Cape Town were also amazing and everyone was welcoming and friendly.

I have included a few pics of our adventure.

Thank you again.

The entire holiday was fabulous. Starting out with the safari was definitely the way to go. Boulders Lodge was marvellous, our guide, Mark, and tracker, Johnson, were super. The private game reserve fulfilled all of our imaginings. I can’t for get to mention the food and wine....brilliant.
The rest of the trip with our guide Rhys was really fun too. He was knowledgeable and obliging. Cape Town, Stellenbosch, etc etc and the Garden Route all provided lots of scenery and entertainment. This was a perfect trip for the family. As you know, we were always on the go but it worked out really well.

The night spent at Buffelsdrift was interesting. The accommodations and service were spectacular. It was tough to sleep amongst all the nature. Every species of bird was voicing their opinion.
We ziplined, rode ostriches, golfed....rode elephants...Each location provided another adventure.
Too much to tell ...thanks for organizing the adventure, we all loved it.
I will send some pictures.

Hi Kathi!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! The trip was awesome and every segment went off with no trouble at all. All the folks that were to meet us were on time and very helpful-most helpful was the woman who picked us up from Federal Air in Johannesberg and brought us back to the hotel after Safari. She was awesome and went beyond the pick-up and drop-off.
Made sure the Hotel gave us non-smoking rooms with king-beds- gave us useful information etc.

All the Lodging you set up for us was great-loved Victoria-Alfred-great location. Auberge Rozendal Windfarm was nice but it was 40-44 C and very hot. No air conditioning- but with a fan we managed. We ate dinner there and the food was good.
Altes Landhaus was beautiful-goregous rooms-wonderful setting-good food. Very hot again, but with air-and fan-very comfortable.(this was Judy and Roger's favorite). Leisure Lodge was awesome-great location overlooking the water-a little more like a hotel but this was my favorite-not counting Victoria and Alfred which was everyone's favorite and of course Little Bush. Victoria Falls Safari Lodge reminded us of something out of a movie-just what you would expect from a African Lodge. Now that I think about it. hard to pick a favorite-each one was unique in its own way.

Did Table Mt, the Cape of Good Hope -saw the Penguins.Had fun tasting wine in Windland (yummy-bought some to take with us), walked with the elephants and got to feed a baby elephant (I think that was on the Garden Route somewhere), drove up some very steep mountains for beautiful views-went through the Swartberg Pass. Couldn't have asked for a better Safari. Loved Victoria Falls, The Sunset Cruise was perfect and the Boma Dinner was way more fun than we expected. Even got our faces painted. Will send you a picture!

The Safari and Little Bush was the best. Finally felt like we were in Africa (although we felt more like we were in Africa when we were in the country-Cape Town is very cosmopo

Hi Kathi!

We had, and I know this is a cliche, but we really did have the "trip of a lifetime!" We have traveled extensively; USA, Europe, Central America, Mexico, Carribean, to name a few, and never have I had a more thrilling experience. Thula Thula was wonderful, even though I got attacked by a monkey. (It was hilarious!!! I have a great picture, should you want to see it!) My only disappointment there was the lack of the "big 5". I may have to go back in about 5 years as they are still working on attaining that achievement.

Victoria Falls was unbelievably beautiful and I think we were there at a perfect viewing time. The people everywhere were so very nice and friendly and the food was fantastic! Yummmmmm! I figure I gained about 5 pounds! UGH! (Warthog was my favorite meat! I still can't believe it!)

Obviously I could go on and on but I want you to know that we thank you very much for planning such a wonderful trip and if you ever need an American reference, call on me!

Dear Kathi,
We just got home, after a long, long day of flying, but just wanted to tell you how great the trip was.
All the arrangements were perfect, all the accommodations were great.
The people of South Africa couldn't have been any nicer. The food was great. The safari was fantastic.
Thanks again.

Kathi,

We have been delinquent in getting back to you. We both have been travelling pretty much since we returned. We did spend this weekend sorting through our pictures, however, and reminisced over the trip.

Overall, the trip was simply amazing. We loved Singita Lebombo. It was our first safari experience and it has unfortunately spoiled us into thinking that all safaris are that way. The game viewing was unbelievable, especially because we were fortunate enough to see all of the Big Five on our first game drive. The hotel, itself, takes extremely good care of its guests, even down to preparing a special anniversary dinner for us in our hotel room. The game viewing was truly the highlight of this part of our trip as our tracker and driver were superb at finding animals, almost by request.

Capetown might potentially be one of the most beautiful cities we have ever visited. From the incredible views from Table Mountain, to the drive to/from the Cape, to the wine country, this city has so many beautiful areas. In the US, you would typically have to spend several months travelling to get to all the different experiences we had in Capetown. We would highly recommend the Cape Grace hotel as the rooms were spectacular, the location was close to everything and their service was superb. We also had the opportunity to have the same tour guide, Rhys, with us the entire time. In addition to his incredible knowledge of the area, his language skills (he speaks fluent Khosa) were impressive. We cannot wait to return to Capetown and spend more time in the wine country, visit a township, visit Robben Island and go hang gliding over the beautiful water and city views.

As Kruger set the standard for safaris, given it was our first, we were concerned that Chobe would be a letdown. However, the density of animals in Chobe made it a completely unique experience. We saw elephants playing in the mud (which made it easy to see how Disney got the idea for Dumbo), giraffe r

Just wanted to drop you a quick line to say thanks for the BEST
vacation of our lives. Everyone, to a person, enjoyed the trip and it
was jam-packed full of wonderful memories. The team you put together
to assist us was also fantastic... and we felt well cared for at every step.
Vic and I arrived home yesterday (after getting the kids safely home) and we both agreed that all of the planning and, particularly, working with your team, made the trip.

As you might imagine, Sabi-Sabi, and specifically Little Bush was beyond our wildest expectations. Elephants off the back deck every day, incredible trackers and rangers, once in a life-time sightings (a female cheetah and her three little cubs, 8 week old elephant, baby giraffe, getting to watch the Southern pride of lions hunt a wildebeast and accidentally meeting up with a bull elephant on our walking tour), and exceptional host, staff and food at the camp.

Thanks again for an incredible experience

Vic

We had an absolutely wonderful holiday in Cape Town !
In the three days there we saw and experienced all that we anticipated and more, courtesy of African Welcome Safaris. You contributed greatly to our stay in your beautiful city and countryside.
We loved the restaurants and the Winelands tour especially.
We are already planning a return visit and will do this within a year and bring some other friends along, hopefully.

Hope to do do business with you again before too long,

Regards,

I’d like to thank you so much for the amazing safari that you arranged for me in Botswana. With arrangements to see friends in Gaborone having fallen through at the last minute, I had only a few days to arrange this trip and no time to do any research. The itinerary that you put together at a moment’s notice was perfect! All the arrangements worked like clockwork and Xugana Island Lodge in the Okavango Delta was the perfect spot… beautiful, relaxing, plenty to see and do and with exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff.

I will certainly use your services for future travel and will recommend African Welcome Safaris to my friends and associates.
Thanks again!
Kind regards,

Sorry that didnt answer you on arrival, but was a little tired.
Everything was fantastic!!! Thank you so much!!! Atlantic view hotel is very good and i could recommend it to all your clients! Fantastic view from the balcony, incredible service!! I had business meetings, so they have prepared breakfast early in the morning and left it on our balcony. They also have a car lifts, so my girl-friends were transfered to any places she wanted!

ALso the staff is very friendly and helped us a lot to define our wine route!

Second hotel is the best one!!! Thank you very much, i suppose we would never find this hotel ourselves! Charming wine estate, fireplace in the room, fishes and black swine in the lake.. We decided that if one day we would like to return in South Africa, we will certainly stay in this hotel!

Knysna and Pletterberg Bay were nice, but probably its better to visit these places during summer time, but all two accommodation was great.

Shamwari is really luxury! Probably its too much "English" for us (we were there like babies :)), and a lot of babysitters were around, they met us after game drives with cup of hot chocolate, they asked every day about our mood etc), but ok, its nice also this! Tent, service, food and game drive were very excited!!!

All points of your program satisfied our expectation!!!! No one mistake!!
THANK YOU A LOT!!!!!!

If one day we will return without any doubt we will contact you again.

Joe and I loved Lion Sands and we were fortunate enough to see alot of 'game' and experience they're beauty in the wild (awesome)! The accomodations were wonderful and the staff made us feel safe and warm. I wouldn't change a thing!

The transfer to Johannesburg went well and your suggestion that Joe and I have some time together gave us some much together time - the Micheanglo (spelling?) met our needs because it was so complete in it's shops and restaurants we didn't have to go anywhere.

The Rovos Rail was a great experience - I saw alot of the various landscapes; from cattle and sheep; to vineyards and snow topped mountains; and osterichs and crops. The train is a great way to see parts of South Africa. One can also appreciate how the train has been faithfully restored and they try to keep to the spirit of the times with the various cars and dressing for dinner. Bravo!

Arriving a Cape Town again was a smooth transfer. The hotel stunning! I managed to eat at the 'Gold' and 'Marcos' for dinner and music.

All in all it was a GREAT vacation and I would recommend you to anyone planning to visit.

Just a short note to say that we arrived back in Perth without any hassle - flight from George to Jo'berg got into Jo'berg eraly and our luggage made it all the way through. Jan and Claire even had time for some last minute duty free shopping!

Our last few days in Knysna were great - Pezula was fantastic - food outstanding, great accommodation and terrific service.

Thank you so much for the efficient way you dealt with our travel requirements - everything went off very smoothly, facilitating what was a trully great holiday.

Thanks once again and regards
Ken
