Day 1

Depart Cape Town via Sir Lowry's Pass. After travelling the plateau of expansive apple orchards in and around Grabouw, arrive at the charming town of Swellendam and continue through the folded sandstone mountains of the Huis River and Tradouw Passes. The true diversity of landscapes is highlighted through the ever-changing semi-desert areas of the Klein Karoo. Visit the towns of Barrydale and Calitzdorp en route to Oudtshoorn. After checking in to your hotel, the remainder of the afternoon is spent visiting the Cango Caves for a fully guided tour. Enjoy a hearty dinner at a local restaurant room famous for its ostrich fare and fine wines.

Day 2

After breakfast, start the day with a visit to a local ostrich farm for a guided tour. Leaving Oudtshoorn, continue over the Robinson Pass to Mossel Bay. Send a postcard to friends or relatives from the famous Post Office Tree before visiting the Diaz and Maritime Museums with relics of famous explorers. Scenic drive via Dolphin Point to Wilderness and on to South Africa's 'oyster capital', Knysna. After checking into your Waterfront hotel, freshen up for a superb dinner at a local restaurant on the Knysna Waterfront.

Day 3

After breakfast you have sufficient time to enjoy a boat cruise on the lagoon (optional extra) or a simple stroll through the village or Waterfront. Our journey to Port Elizabeth commences with a short refreshment stop in the 'millionaires' playground' of Plettenberg Bay. Attractions to be visited in the Tsitsikamma Forest area include the Big Tree and the Garden of Eden. Gaze in awe at the scenery whilst crossing the bridge over the Storms River where photographic opportunities abound. Leave the Garden Route via the Groot River and the Bloukrans Passes to Port Elizabeth. The day ends at your beachfront hotel. Freshen up for a delectable dinner featuring Cape Country cuisine at a local restaurant or the hotel's elegant dining room.

Day 4

After breakfast, depart Port Elizabeth and spend the morning visiting Addo Elephant National Park. Continue towards Grahamstown, 'the city of churches'. This cultural centre boasts a wide variety of interesting sites including schools, Rhodes University, historical early settler architecture and monuments. You will also visit the fascinating Camera Obscura, giving you a bird's eye-view of the city. Depart for a pineapple plantation. Arrive at the private game lodge in time for an afternoon game drive in an open safari vehicle.

Day 5

Travel through the former homelands Ciskei and Transkei to experience a typical African city with its street markets and traders. The afternoon is spent following the early footsteps of Nelson Mandela's youth at his home village of Qunu. You will also visit the Nelson Mandela Museum.

Day 6

Depart Umtata to the Wild Coast. Traverse this unspoilt beautiful route and stop at Cremorne where the wreck of the famous Grosvenor can be seen. Proceed to Port St. Johns where the Mzimvubu River reaches the sea through towering cliffs and thick indigenous forest. After visiting the 142 metre waterfall on the Magwa River, travel through the tea plantations and local villages to Ramsgate. After a short tea stop, continue up the South Coast to Durban for drop off at hotel or Durban International Airport.
