Willowbrook Lodge
Willowbrook Lodge was established in 1992 by Bruce and Marianne Birrell who purchased the property from Guy and Annamarie
Liebenberg. The Liebenbergs lived on the adjacent property and operated a 5-bedroomed guesthouse from the original homestead.
This homestead today comprises the Willowbrook lounge, dining room and rooms 2, 3, 4 and 5. Prior to that, the grounds had
extended from the Lourens River to Lourensford Road and from Morgenster Avenue to Vergelegen Estate. In those days the old house
was the home of Advocate Kerr and his family, and two of the family retainers Sam and Rebecca Nkoana are still active on the
property.
This Somerset West guesthouse run by the Liebenbergs, called Arumwood Lodge in those days, was closed early in 1992
when the Birrells embarked on an ambitious programme of renovation and expansion, thereby turning Willowbrook Lodge,
as it was renamed, into a 12-bedroomed guesthouse. In August 1995, the lodge was leased to Serge and Janik Olchanetzky
who installed a new swimming pool and enclosed the original veranda, thus enlarging the restaurant capacity.
Nestled on the banks of the Lourens River, Willowbrook Lodge borders the historically important Morgenster and
Vergelegen Estates and is within walking distance of Erinvale Golf Estate.
