Sable Valley Lodge
Hwange National Park - Accommodation
The aristocrat of Africa's great antelope, the Sable is by far the most magnificent,
with its jet-black coat and noble sweep of horns. In the vast teak forest of Hwange
these antelope are particularly prolific along the famous Dete Valley where, high upon
a tree lined ridge, Sable Valley Lodge echoes the style and elegance of its namesake.
A soaring roof thatched in traditional Matabele style encloses a lounge/bar/dining room with
a central spiral staircase leading to an overhead-viewing platform.
A small swimming pool and lush lawns welcome guests at midday whilst at night a crackling open
fire beneath a canopy of stars provides the accompaniment for delicious meals.
Majestic teak and wild mahogany trees shelter the hand ochred guest cottages,
their cool interiors reflecting the striking colours of the sable antelope in hues of rust, black and cream.
A vast mosquito net encloses the beds in an atmosphere of exotic luxury. As a safari retreat,
Sable Valley Lodge has hosted royalty and celebrities, its serenity and seclusion in a
setting of abundant wildlife provides the perfect combination of elegance and adventure.
